Too Hot For Camping

It seemed like a good idea at the time.  I was whisked away to the campground, just as I was beginning to see things shape up here in the studio.  Too hot to camp.  Too hot means that I’m staying in a very small space just so that I can breathe.  I’m in the camper with my daughter Chloe and a dog, looking out of small windows at other campsites.  We are watching one movie after another.  It wasn’t our usual place with a lake and fully loaded camp store.  Fully loaded means, you never run out of ice cream.  I suppose it’s not just the heat but the high humidity that makes it impossible for me to get enough oxygen.

It has cooled down now, here in Ohio.  Gentle breezes have blown the humid air away.  It smells of fall even though it’s still early July.  My husband says “Now is a good time to go camping.”  I look at him, I look at my project, and I know that I will be staying right here at home sewing and painting and doing all the things that make me happy.  We will drive to the camp site today and take a nice late afternoon hike, but no camping.  Not for awhile.

I like to camp in the fall and spring.  I like the evenings when you have to bring a light jacket.  I even love the little heater that we have and how it smells when you turn it on for the first time in the fall.  I’ll go camping later in the year when it’s not 100°F.

So even though I went camping, I could not think of one nice word about it.  I couldn’t think of any nice words at all.  In fact I’ve had to have some really long pep talks with myself to get myself backed up off a pile of bad attitude.  One thing I’ve told myself is, I simply can’t have that bad attitude getting all over my art work.

Do you like to camp?  What time of year do you think is best for camping?

Watch for new items coming to my store in the next couple of weeks.  These napkins will be one of them.  Next time we camp I hope I will have a long list of words and pictures to share with you.
